5 Most Reliable Home Appliance Brands

Here at Appliance Repair 512, we make our living repairing your broken appliances. In other words, your appliances not doing what they’re supposed to be doing is terrible news for you — but we’d be out of business if every appliance worked all the time!

While we definitely want to stay in business and we love working with you (really, we do!), we thought we’d share some picks for the most reliable home appliance brands. Although choosing one of these brands might mean we’ll see you a little less often, we’re committed to saving you hassles and headaches. We like to believe we treat our customers like family and would we want a family member to buy an unreliable appliance? Of course not!

Here are our picks, in no particular order:

LG

When it comes to both kitchen and laundry appliances, LG ranks on top for many categories in J.D. Power and Associates’ customer satisfaction studies. Two LG refrigerators rank highest in customer satisfaction, as does its freestanding range. LG also bests its competitors in the top-load washer category; customers cite its ease of use, features, performance, reliability and price as reasons they’re happy with their purchase.

GE

If GE hasn’t been on your radar lately, it’s time to give the brand another look. Its lineup includes sleek, modern appliances that look upscale, without the price tag that inevitably comes along with high-end brands. Consumer Reports ranks GE #7 in its list of most reliable appliance brands. GE performs particularly well in the category of stoves and ranges–Wirecutter declares GE the winner when it comes to double oven ranges, gas ranges, and slide-in electric ranges, as well as for wall ovens. GE range hoods, upright and chest freezers, and side-by-side refrigerators are also top picks. If you’re looking for home appliances that are made in the United States, you’ll be happy to know that GE has many products that are designed, engineered, and manufactured in the US with parts mostly made in the US when possible.

Maytag

Those old commercials with the bored Maytag appliance repair man weren’t lying! A survey of appliance repair technicians found that they ranked Maytag #2 for overall reliability across all product lines. J.D. Power reports that consumers are particularly happy with Maytag’s dishwashers. Wirecutter’s research found that Maytag’s electric and gas dryers performed well for the money, with a sturdy, simple build that stands the test of time. With a 10 year limited parts warranty, Maytag is willing to stand behind its products, which is always a good sign when it comes to reliability.

Whirlpool

You may be wondering which brand ranked #1 among repair technicians if Maytag was #2. The top appliance brand for overall reliability in that survey was Whirlpool–which isn’t a surprise considering that Whirlpool owns Maytag. The technicians surveyed attested to Whirlpool’s reliability in the categories of refrigerators, dishwashers, stoves, dryers, and washing machines–in short, Whirlpool cleans up across the board. Interestingly, Consumer Reports ranks Whirlpool 9th on its list of most reliable appliance brands, but that still puts it in the top half of its overall list. Wirecutter lists a Whirlpool gas range as its topic budget pick, and the site is also a fan of Whirlpool’s 36-inch-wide, standard-depth French door refrigerator.

KitchenAid

Like Maytag, KitchenAid is also owned by the Whirlpool Corporation, so it’s understandable why its appliances would rank highly along with its sister brands. The aforementioned survey of appliance technicians ranks KitchenAid #3 in overall reliability, with the brand especially standing out in the categories of dishwashers, refrigerators, stoves, and ranges. J.D Power cites KitchenAid cooktops as performing particularly well according to consumers. Consumer Reports doesn’t rank KitchenAid quite as favorably, but if you’re looking for a brand that servicepeople recommend and use in their own homes, KitchenAid fits the bill.

Even when you buy a reliable appliance brand, the need for appliance repair at some time during a product’s lifespan is pretty much inevitable. Have a problem that you can’t fix? We’re here to help! Give us a call at 512-351-7624, 24 hours a day, to set up an appointment with one of our experienced technicians. We look forward to meeting with you!
